About Embrace International, NGO
Embrace International is a non-profit organization designed to improve the quality of life for children around the world. This organization strives to remove barriers that prevent families from accessing necessary therapeutic care for their children.
Internationally, our goal is to serve the under-resourced children of the world. "Under-resourced" includes (but is not limited to), children in orphanages, group homes, or transitional living centers. Our focus is on children with special needs who have cognitive, emotional, physical, or developmental delays, and their caregivers. Unfortunately, many in the developing world live in areas with poor access to therapeutic facilities. After doing an extensive needs assessment, our service teams work within existing conditions to provide education, support services, and direct therapy for children and their caregivers.
Locally, our goal is to help the families in our community ENJOY their environments more successfully. We do this by helping them gain access to therapeutic equipment and support, by creating ALL-INCLUSIVE events for families, and providing EDUCATION to our local neighbors. Specifically we serve the areas in and around Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland, and San Francisco, California.
What makes Embrace International different?
The concept of volunteer therapist is at the heart of Embrace International. Our occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other health and education professionals drive our efforts in the international and local communities.
Where does the money go?
Funds raised by Embrace International help make our volunteer therapy service trips possible.
Often, It's a lack of funding that prohibits therapists from offering their services abroad. We strive to ease this barrier in order to share our skills as practitioners and caregivers with those that need it most.
Embrace focuses its scholarships on allied health professionals. Funds are applied to expenses such as travel, lodging, and liability insurance. Applicants are reviewed by the Board of Directors. Awards are allocated based on credentials, personal statement, and particular expertise. Funds will also be allocated to adminstrative costs.
The funds raised by Embrace International also go towards supporting our community lectures and all-inclusive community events. Monetary donations from others help to keep these events free to the public.
The Embrace staff consists only of volunteers.
How is Embrace International funded?
All donations to Embrace International are tax deductible. These include corporate sponsorships and individual pledges.
